Over a Thousand Police Force to Secure Dinagyang 2009
Over a thousand police forece shall secure the city’s peace and order during the highlights of the Dinagyang Festival on January 23 to 25, 2009.
Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) Director Supt. Eugenio Espejo confirmed that aside from police on field assignments, a composite element and police assistance centers shall also be positioned in every judging area to ensure that criminal elements will not sabotage the celebration.
He said around 1,429 policemen will be on duty during the festivities with 700 personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Some 3,000 police interns from different schools will also augment the 120 policemen from the Iloilo Provincial Police Office, 300 from the Regional Mobile Group, 100 from the regional command, 270 traffic aides and a number of K-9 dogs.
Espejo explained that the combined forces will be assigned in nine sectors in the city, including all the four judging areas, hotels, and streets. He said other areas holding special activities will also have police assistance centers since thousands of people are expected to flock.
The police and military composite teams will also be augmented by barangay tanods who will secure their own villages without passing through the jurisdiction of the police inside the rope line set during the parade.
